to know our role and be successful – parashat vayeshev

Often in life, we are faced with tasks which we never signed up for – a person you don’t really know oversharing and now you have the responsibility to comfort them, being asked for help because you happen to be the only person around.. why me? why do i have to spend my precious time, there are so many other things to do!

actually.. no. YOU were the person being asked and you didnt just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hashem puts a problem in front of you – so solve it ! It becomes YOUR problem the second it enters your life, that means hashem picked YOU as the right person to fix it! Sometimes we don’t realize that if an issue occurs, Hashem already gave us all of the solution to fix it. It is actually very simple.

This is the secret to success: if something enters our life, we see it and automatically, divinely become part of it. So get involved ! Do your best ! Hashem gives you a responsibility so that means you have everything within you to pursue a goal! We must truly believe that one action can change the entire world and we carry the power.

This ignorance of recognizing ones appointed task is reflected in Reubens behavior. He intends to save his brother Joseph by taking him out of the pit the other brothers threw him in, understanding that he carries great responsibility as the first-born and oldest son. Instead of staying with Joseph and being persistent with his plan, he leaves (even though it was for the purpose of caring for his father – he could have found a solution), resulting in his brother being sold to egypt; had he only paid more attention, had he been more careful in recognizing that he has got a mission to fulfill and in order to do that he needs to work toward that with all his being, his brother would not have been sold and he would have spared their father so much pain. Reuven could have achieved great success, but he failed because he refused to take matters into his own hands.

One little thought or care or closer attention can make big changes and even has the power to change the entire world. Let’s pay attention to our surroundings and be aware of what is going on – and reflect on why we were put in this place. At all times, we represent Hashem, acting and fixing the world for him, as partners in his creation. We don’t need to be a chief rabbi for that – all it needs is a simple person.

Our success is dependent on how much we give Hashem the opportunity to act. May we all have the ability to act with awareness, fulfill and recognize our role in life, in the small details as well as the bigger picture. eine gute shabbesssss
